Disclaimer, before using this, make sure to wash your face.
First, we’re going to make a cucumber mask.
I think rice is really popular, but cucumber has also been like an OG ingredient for skincare in Korea for decades. When the skin needs a rest, cucumber slices are applied to the face in almost every Korean household. All you need is a cucumber and aloe gel.
Start by washing half a cucumber, then grate it or chop it into very thin slices. Apply a thin layer of aloe gel to keep the cucumber slices from sliding off your face and carefully place the cucumber slices on your skin. Lie down and relax for about 10 to 15 minutes. Cucumbers are rich in water and vitamins, making them great for soothing and hydrating. Once you finish, simply remove the cucumber and continue with your regular skincare routine.
Next, make a mask using our star ingredient rice
This is actually an ancient Korean beauty remedy as historical records show that hot girls from the Chosun Dynasty used rice to wash their face and also as a lotion. All you need for this recipe is honey and rice. Place half a cup of rice in a bowl and some of you were asking if you can use different types of rice.
And yes, you can use any type of rice and wash the rice about three times. Also, if you feel that the impurities are not removed well, you can wash it a few more times. Now we are going to cook the rice. So add 1 cup of water to it and cook it till it becomes soft. Take it off the heat and let it cool down. Now we are going to put it in the blender. Add 2 tablespoons of water and a tablespoon of honey to it and blend. Now we have finished making the rice mask. This is one of my favorites because rice is considered to be really effective for improving skin complexion, making the skin glow, and keeping the skin soft and moisturized.
Quick dip here.
If you leave it on for too long, it can actually dry out your skin, so it’s better to use it for only 10 to 15 minutes and then wash it off gently with lukewarm water. And you can continue your skin care routine and don’t forget to apply a moisturizer after that. Also, face masks can cause irritation if you use it too often, so using it once or twice a week is enough.
I made a little extra today, but it’s best to make enough for one-time use rather than storing the leftovers. Our final recipe in this chapter is a yogurt almond mask. We’ll grind the almonds first. Take half a cup of yogurt, 2 tablespoons of almond powder and one-and-a-half tablespoons of aloe gel for extra moisture and a soothing effect. Both yogurt and almonds have antibacterial effects, which can help prevent the growth of harmful bacteria on the skin, plus they also give a mild exfoliating effect. Our next chapter is DIY toners, and we are going to use rice again this time. Wash the rice thoroughly, preferably three to four times, and for the last time, shake the rice gently
Leave it at room temperature for about 30 minutes, and remove only the water from it using a sieve. And there it is, rice toner. You can use it to wash your face, but you can also use it as a toner. Actually, fermented rice has more nutrients and benefits than non-fermented rice, but personally I don’t like the smell of fermented rice, so I don’t use it that way. But the method is the same. Leave the rice water at room temperature for more than 24 hours and it will slowly start to ferment.
Moving on to our last DIY is Green Tea Toner. This is another very old DIY as it is also considered great for acne prone and sensitive skin. It is very easy. Boil water, add water in a cup with a green tea bag. Let it cook for 5 to 10 minutes and take care not to cook it for too long as it can increase the acidity. It is full of powerful antioxidants and has a soothing effect on your skin too. Now let it cool down and when it becomes lukewarm, pour it in a mist bottle. Now you can add a little aloe vera gel to it and that is optional.
Here is another quick tip when you use DIY toners, make sure to store them in the fridge. And I try to use it quickly as it takes time to cool down.
